Like many developing countries, Zambia is facing a waste crisis. Due to the lack of appropriate resources for waste management, rapid population growth and urbanization, Lusaka its capital - is overwhelmed with trash.
This situation particularly affect slum populations that are living among piles of garbage. They thus result to harmful disposal methods such burying and burning waste that lead to important public health and environmental hazard.
We aim at creating shoes made entirely from recycled plastics to alleviate the waste crisis and promote recycling in Zambia.
Oftentimes, recyclables collected in developing countries are sent to more developed ones to be recycled. However, developing countries would benefit more from exporting manufactured products than raw materials. Moreover, this shipping process is bad for the environment.
Our goal is to empower local waste-pickers by turning them into shoe-makers, and to limit our environmental footprint by staying local.
All our shoes are handcrafted and unique. Each pair has a story. You will know the story of the talented artist who created your pair of shoes and the inspiration behind it.
Plasticity is still at its conception phase. If you are interested, please leave us your email address. We will keep you updated on the project’s progress.
